Hi—we’re the Mastins.
Mastin Miles is where we document how our family travels: realistically, imperfectly, and with kids in tow.
We’re a family of five currently living in Japan, using our time here to explore the country one trip at a time—weekend train rides, longer school-break adventures, and the occasional international trip when schedules (and energy levels) allow. Some trips are smooth. Others involve missed connections, tired kids, and last-minute plan changes. All of them teach us something.
This blog isn’t about checking off highlights or pretending every moment is magical. It’s about:
- Traveling at a pace that works for families
- Figuring out logistics so trips are actually enjoyable
- Sharing what worked, what didn’t, and what we’d do differently next time
Why we started this blog
We realized that most travel content falls into one of two categories:
- Perfect, polished trips that don’t feel realistic with kids
- Advice so vague it’s hard to use
Mastin Miles sits in the middle.
We write the kind of posts we look for ourselves—honest trip recaps, practical planning notes, and age-specific insights that help parents decide whether a destination or itinerary is worth it for their family, not just in theory.
What you’ll find here
On Mastin Miles, we share:
- Family travel guides around Japan
- Trip reports with real pacing and energy levels
- Packing and planning lessons learned the hard way
- Notes on traveling with kids of different ages
- Occasional international trips beyond Japan
Our goal is simple: to make family travel feel more doable, not more stressful.
Who this is for
This blog is for parents who:
- Still want to explore, even with kids
- Prefer honest advice over hype
- Care more about good memories than perfect photos
If that sounds like you, you’re in the right place.
Thanks for following along—
The Mastins
