About

Hi—we’re the Mastins.

Mastin Miles is where we document how our family travels: realistically, imperfectly, and with kids in tow.

We’re a family of five currently living in Japan, using our time here to explore the country one trip at a time—weekend train rides, longer school-break adventures, and the occasional international trip when schedules (and energy levels) allow. Some trips are smooth. Others involve missed connections, tired kids, and last-minute plan changes. All of them teach us something.

This blog isn’t about checking off highlights or pretending every moment is magical. It’s about:

  • Traveling at a pace that works for families
  • Figuring out logistics so trips are actually enjoyable
  • Sharing what worked, what didn’t, and what we’d do differently next time

Why we started this blog

We realized that most travel content falls into one of two categories:

  1. Perfect, polished trips that don’t feel realistic with kids
  2. Advice so vague it’s hard to use

Mastin Miles sits in the middle.

We write the kind of posts we look for ourselves—honest trip recaps, practical planning notes, and age-specific insights that help parents decide whether a destination or itinerary is worth it for their family, not just in theory.

What you’ll find here

On Mastin Miles, we share:

  • Family travel guides around Japan
  • Trip reports with real pacing and energy levels
  • Packing and planning lessons learned the hard way
  • Notes on traveling with kids of different ages
  • Occasional international trips beyond Japan

Our goal is simple: to make family travel feel more doable, not more stressful.

Who this is for

This blog is for parents who:

  • Still want to explore, even with kids
  • Prefer honest advice over hype
  • Care more about good memories than perfect photos

If that sounds like you, you’re in the right place.

Thanks for following along—
